Latest Alchemy Player Improves Efficiency and Security

By Product Management Team |

We know clients enjoy the group training option Alchemy provides, and we’ll continue to innovate on Alchemy Player to improve the experiences for your learners and facilitators. We’re excited to bring you this latest release of Player 8.3.5 with optional features to improve efficiency and security.

Automatic Course Updates
Alchemy’s Creative team continuously works to update courses you have in your Alchemy Catalog. If you’ve downloaded a title to Player and we make a course update, you’ll need to download the new version to Player. The new feature will update downloaded courses automatically in the background when you connect Player to the internet. This helps ensure your team is always training on up-to-date content and saves time you would spend processing a manual update.

If you prefer to only have manual course updates that you can witness and control, you can contact our Support team to turn off this feature globally at your company. You can configure each Player computer to control whether to allow course auto-updates, and the default setting is ON.

Facilitator Login
IT and network security is something we prioritize in the solutions we provide you. To align with the industry standard Title 21 CFR Part 11, we’re introducing the option for you to require facilitators to log in to Player for setup or training. To sign in, a user would have to have Alchemy Manager credentials of either a Platinum/Diamond admin role or the Facilitator add-on ability.

This feature allows you to monitor and control who has access to Player computers at your plant. When your employees sign in, Player automatically assigns them as the facilitator for the training session in the Enrollment tab. When they complete their work in Player, they must then sign out. This feature is OFF at the corporate level in the default setting, and you can contact our Support team to begin using it. Visit our Help Center article for more information.

Support for Multi-Language Playbook Courses
If your company uses Alchemy Playbook and you take advantage of the recently introduced ability to create non-English Playbook courses, Player now supports this. You can see and select the full collection of languages for Playbook courses you’ve uploaded into Player just as you do with Alchemy courses.

Methods to Upgrade Alchemy Player
You have two options to upgrade Player – in the application or manually outside of Player.  Either way you go, you may need internal IT assistance to complete the installation.

Most clients have automatic updates turned on, which allows you to update your instance of Player on any computer within the application itself. Simply:

  1. Look for the gold banner to appear across the top of Player’s Main tab announcing the new version.
  2. Click where indicated to begin the update.
  3. Proceed to make the same update on any other Player machines in your company.

If your company has chosen to manually upgrade Player when we release a new version, you’ll follow these steps with every Player computer to upgrade outside the application.

  1. Download the most recent version of Player here: Alchemy Player 8
  2. Extract ALL files to your local drive.
  3. Run setup from your local drive to upgrade – DO NOT uninstall your existing Player version.

We’re already working on the next set of features we’ll introduce in Alchemy Player. We invite you to help shape what features we release, and which ones have more priority. Please send your feedback and ideas to us at productfeedback@alchemysystems.com.
