Suicide is an uncomfortable topic for most people, and this fear and discomfort contribute to the isolation that is a factor in some taking their own lives – at the rate of more than 100 per day in the United States. We know suicide prevention training can help prevent tragic deaths and have partnered with an organization focused on the cause to introduce a new premium course: “Suicide Prevention: Question, Persuade, Refer.”

This course can be added to your Alchemy Catalog for a small additional fee. Alchemy is donating the proceeds to QPR Institute to support their mission to save lives by preventing suicide through education.

Premium Course Details
This new course is a 60-minute, eLearning-only course that can empower anyone to take action that might help save a life. It dispels some common myths of suicide and is based on the evidence-based method of Question, Persuade, and Refer. Your staff can help make a difference in your community with this important education that covers:

• How to recognize the warning signs of suicide
• Constructive ways to take action with someone in crisis
• Common causes and stigma to seeking help
• How to get help to possibly save a life

This self-paced, one-hour course features effective multimedia to communicate and hold attention and includes knowledge-check questions along the way to assess learning. It also includes a test at the end requiring an 80% score for passing. Those who are successful will receive a certificate valid for a year. Much like CPR training that needs to be refreshed, this is education for lives at risk and regular exposure helps keep rarely used and vital skills sharp.

Included with the course is an eBook providing deeper insight into suicide, as well as a multitude of other resources which review the lessons, remind learners of key points, and provide helpful referral information one can access when assisting someone in suicide crisis. The eBook and all the additional materials are downloadable near the end of the course, and the personalized certificate will be sent to an email address entered by the learner.

We chose to partner with QPR Institute because they’re experts in this education and use a science-based program that works. “Question. Persuade. Refer.” is their proprietary, practical method they explain in their course which has been taken by more than 6 million people worldwide.

Passing this course makes one a certified “QPR Gatekeeper” for a year. According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

The QPR Institute course is available to anyone online for a one-time fee. We’ve made it conveniently available in your Alchemy Training System so you can assign it in Learning Plans and report on it along with all your other training.
